Launch Day!
A great deal of thought and deliberation has been put into building the platform you viewed on the Pilots For Change website. It took months of meaningful conversations with many individuals who all felt that we could be performing better as an Association. If we do not initiate Change now during this time of crisis, then when will we? If this moment cannot unify our group, then what will? The challenges buffeting our pilot group and profession poses a considerable risk to the wellbeing of our careers. Our only defence is a united pilot group, working in unison to achieve strategic objectives focused on improving our careers now and into the future. Flying for a living is a great Profession and we want to ensure the long term prosperity of this Profession for ourselves and for those who will follow us. We believe our Core Elements of Change are paramount to achieving these goals.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, to learn about who we are and what we stand for. Success starts from the ground up, and we need your support.
Scope Grievance
As timing would have it, ACPA issued a rather detailed newsletter on August 25th. We applaud this communication as we believe Engagement is an essential part of leading an organization. Timely, relevant, and effective communication is key to building trust in an association.
This communication outlined the scope grievance ACPA has recently filed against the Company. We agree that Article 1 of our Collective Agreement is currently being violated via incorrect fleet ratios at our Regional Affiliates. A long standing pillar of strong labour organizations is contract enforcement. Unfortunately, during this crisis the Company has opted to take unilateral liberties with our scope language. Pilots for Change believes a contract is only as strong as those enforcing it and if given the opportunity to lead this association, it will be our top priority.
We understand the complexity of fostering a sense of unity while also enforcing our collective rights as a pilot group. No one said the road ahead was going to be easy, and while we stand with our brothers and sisters at Jazz and Sky Regional, we also must make it known that violation of our Scope Language will not be tolerated.
Unity
We believe it's time to change the narrative of what it means to be truly united. Not just as Air Canada pilots, but as Canadian pilots as a whole. For too long there have been divisions between pilot groups in this country. Viewing each other as the competition rather than fellow aviators. As professional pilots flying for the largest carrier in the country, we have a duty to lead our profession by example. How we conduct our affairs as an Association has an impact that extends well beyond our immediate pilot group. It's time we take this responsibility seriously.
A balance can exist in maintaining our sovereignty and collective rights as Air Canada pilots, while also assisting and working together with other pilot groups to help further Canadian aviation. A rising tide lifts all boats.
