MEC NEM By-Election
Vote for André Soucy!
It goes without saying - Jon Gabbert is not replaceable. Jon’s tireless union advocacy on our MEC will be greatly missed. The entire movement would like to extend a huge thank you to Jon for all of his work on behalf of this pilot group. Any union group would be fortunate to have Jon on board - he is the embodiment of a true labour unionist.
Fortunately, our movement is stronger than one person - this is the real strength of our grassroots pilot driven effort. Even though Jon may not be on our MEC anymore we must move forward and ensure his vote is replaced by another like-minded pilot advocate. Pilots for Change is proud to endorse André Soucy for the Nationally Elected Member (NEM) position on our MEC. André shares our vision for positive change for all Air Canada pilots. He has previously served on the MEC as a Nationally Elected Member (NEM) and is currently the Chair of CMSC. He has proven himself to be a highly effective advocate for our pilot group. He will provide a fresh perspective on the direction our association needs to take, shares our core values and supports our positions on key issues.
It is imperative to get the vote out and send the message that you are not okay with the ACPA status quo - that all of our Pilots for Change supporters are still waiting for change. If this seat isn’t won by a Pilots for Change candidate it will be a significant setback. We fully realize that change is not happening as fast as any of us would like but the past version of ACPA has not, and will not, realize the gains our professional pilot group is entitled to. Looking to the past is not where we will find the foundation for building a stronger and better profession. The simple truth is that you can’t fix ACPA with more ACPA. The only path forward for the betterment of our entire pilot group is to embrace labour union basics. Joining the Air Line Pilots Association would provide our pilot group with the knowledge, training, power and solidarity that only a large professional pilot union can provide. The ALPA question should be put forward to our membership as soon as possible; with these results, our pilot group can move forward with clarity. We need to continue electing Pilots for Change candidates at the MEC level to ensure our voices are heard clearly and that our will is implemented. This is how we will truly return our union back to the will of the membership. André is our pro-labour and pro-ALPA candidate. A vote for him is a vote for change.
All elections are important so please spread the word to your fellow colleagues and make sure they vote! The online by-election for this position opened today and runs until September 9th. A strong union has an engaged and informed membership. Voting is the most primary form of union participation and an engaged pilot group is a powerful pilot group.
Always remember that this is your union and your voice does matter!
